A Gentleman Travels: Charleston, South Carolina
Dear Reader:
During my family vacations as a kid, my father would attempt to travel to every Civil War marker on the East Coast. I would drag my heels and grumble because I wanted Disney World instead of General Sherman. But looking back, I wouldn't have had it any other way because he introduced me to one of my favorite cities on the planet: Charleston. With something old, something new Charleston really brews the Southern charm like no other and serves it with a side of fried green tomatoes. I'll take seconds. Thirds, even.
In between my sweet tea drinking and tater tot runs to Sonic, I sidestepped to the shopping wonderland that is King Street. Charleston really is one of the few last places in America that still has an assortment of stores that cater to gentlemanly garments. And as faithful as an ice cold draft, this fair city rekindled my love for an old favorite and introduced me to a new friend as well.
Ben Silver at 149 King Street has always reminded me of the kind of store where Will Varner from A Long Hot Summer would buy all his sundries. A legendary man needs legendary goods, right? It is through Mr. Silver that I discovered Anglo American Optical. Since 1881, this company has been giving the ole peepers some real character. So many colors and styles to choose from, but my faves are the top left. Sherlock Holmes, what what.
And let's not forget Mr. Silver's infamous cuff links.
These below are some real beauties. Honest, Abe.
But my new favorite Charleston find comes from J. McLaughlin. These cuff links are limited edition and unfortunately only sold in store. The skull and parrot pairing are pure swashbucklin' fun.

I think you should get the top left glasses. They'd look soooo cute on you! Why no entry about your exciting ride home?
