Whistle Wetters: Esquire's 1949 Handbook for Hosts
The Infamous Manhattan:
One of the many myths is that the Manhattan cocktail was invented by a man named Black who had a bar in NYC in the late 1860's. Apparently it was near Houston Street on Broadway and was supposedly the most famous drink in the world at this time.
How to Make a 2-1 Manhattan:
3 dashes Orange Bitters
1/2 Italian Vermouth
2/3 Rye or Bourbon
Pour over ice cubes in tall glass, stir clockwise, chuck in a square piece of lemon rind, stir some more, then pour into a chilled glass---with or without maraschino cherry.
