A Lady's Lesson: Interview with Krista Johnson

If you've ever had the pleasure of meeting Krista Johnson, then you know already that she has the amazing ability to make you smile within seconds. Whether at the social event of the season or a fun night at Town Hall, Ms. Johnson is always the life of the party. Not only is this blonde beauty a  DC social magnet and partner in one of Georgetown's most trendy boutiques We Won You Two, she is also on her way to the forefront of the reality television stratosphere as one of the founding members of the CW's newly upgraded Blonde Charity Mafia. I was lucky enough to sit down with Ms. Johnson, my personal fashion expert, to talk about Gentleman's Style in DC and to offer some advice to those men, like myself, who are less fashion forward inclined.

What are the best stores for men to shop at in DC?
Sherman Pickey. Eric Finn downtown makes amazing suits. Mi Chiamo Eka (http://michiamoeka.com/) is a classic men's clothing line that provides ready-to-wear suits, dress shirts, trousers and accessories. And Thomas Pink just does it for me. I love their cuff links with bright colors and animated shapes.

Name a few "best dressed" men, and describe why they are so damn dapper:
Ebong Eka, Congressman Aaron Schock, and a special someone from Charleston. All of these men are effortlessly chic all the while being classic. It honestly looks like they walk around with personal steam presses because they are always so put together. I think they understand that ultimately to impress women your dress should be timeless and crisp.

Name four things that every man either should or should not have in their closet:
1) Have a tuxedo. Always be prepared.
2) Have a pink shirt. If men can wear pink, it oozes masculinity.
3) Have a pair of cowboy boots.
4) Don't have baggage in your closet such as ex-wives, ex-girlfriends, or dogs of ex-lovers!

What are men in DC missing in their wardrobe?
An iron! When I go to events or even just walking down M Street, it seems that some men take no pride in their appearance. They look like wrinkly messes. Also, most DC men wear basic suits but add no personality to them. Try adding a deep purple, or crimson blue tie. Something that pops. You don't have to spend a fortune. That's the one good thing about the current state of the economy: great sales.

Pleated or Flat Front?
Flat front, always.

Boxers or Briefs?
Boxers! Sherman Pickey, Banana Republic, and J. Crew all have a great selection. Personally, I love boxers with arctic animals on them. Cute penguins and polar bears!

Fedora or Baseball cap?
Neither, cowboy hat!

Any final words or thoughts?
Always dress appropriately for the occasion. A white t-shirt and a pair of khakis can be the perfect outfit for a BBQ but not a night out in the city.
