A Gentlemanly Review: H Street Country Club

Dear Reader:

I was lucky enough this weekend to tag along on a private tour of the new H Street Country Club. (Thanks, Florie and Kristin!) While I'm mainly a Georgetown boy, I've frequented the super cool H Street bars and restaurants, and the addition of the H Street Country Club is taking the Atlas District to a new level.
First off, the attention to detail in this building is fantastic. I was blown away by everything from the design of the menus to the hanging toaster lamps in the upstairs bar. Most certainly the main attraction is the upper level miniature golf course which is an ode to the Streets of DC. It has a hole for everything from K lawyers to a gigantic Marion Barry. (I mean who hasn't wanted to hit golf balls at the latter at one time or another. Just kidding, Council member Barry!) But i
f golf isn't your game, then the Country Club has just about everything else to ease your competitive urges: pool, shuffleboard, and skeeball. I personally challenge anyone to a game of shuffleboard, this gentleman is basically a Master.
However, if you aren't a team player, then put some tunes on the jukebox and grab a beverage from the fully stocked bar. Particularly, I recommend two drinks. First, the guava margarita. Light, refreshing, and a total delicious-fest in your mouth. But if you want something a little more dangerous, as I usually do, try the I Wanna Jana. A great mixture of Patron Silver and Chambord with berries and honey. After two of these, your socks will officially be knocked off. Beware!
While this was merely a soft opening, and I wasn't able to try the tempting Mexican cuisine. Word on the street is that the lamb enchiladas and the pineapple chimichangas are "to die for." So get over to H Street, dear reader, and find out for yourself! I guarantee you'll have a great time.
The Country Club opens on May 27th and is located at 1335 H Street NE Washington DC 20002. And don't forget the free shuttle from Union Station or Chinatown!

    Happy Country Clubbing,
    HPG
PS- Florie and I put about $300 on the jukebox so if you hear a rousing mixture of Queen, Billy Joel, and Prince...well you know who to blame!
